Diarrhea

Types of diarrhea
- Acute diarrhea: Short-term diarrhea that usually lasts less than a week

Causes
- Stomach or intestinal infections
- Food allergies and intolerances

Treatment

Complications
Dehydration is a serious side effect of diarrhea. Other complications include malabsorption and unhealthy weight loss.
When to seek medical advice
Seek medical advice if you experience:
- Signs of dehydration
- Diarrhea for more than 2 days
- Severe pain in your abdomen or rectum
- A fever of 102 degrees or higher
- Stools containing blood or pus
- Stools that are black and tarry
